So they're back...

You can see in the pictures that Jacob was obviously excited, but you can't hear his elated chatter the whole time we were waiting for them to get off the train already. You can't see the faces of all the people who thought his giddiness was the cutest thing. And you definitely can't observe his little half jump/run in place thing accompanied by a loud shriek/giggle the moment the escalator devlivered his long-awaited happiness.

We'd been over to their house earlier in the day to clean up from three weeks of hanging out, and we baked a carrot cake in honor of their homecoming (we also ended up singing Happy Birthday to Jacob and let him blow out candles in honor of his recent half-birthday). Then when we brought them home, I cooked dinner and we all got caught up. I had an early appointment today so I brought Jacob over to 'MamMa and Papa's'. He was so excited when he woke up this morning. He told me he was going to make pancakes with MamMa and play with Papa. I can't remember the last time he woke up that happy; it's like he's complete now. So I was gone for almost four hours. That alone, is more time away from Jacob than I've had in the last three weeks combined. I think I was only away from him twice: A couple hours at my sister's 'bachelorette' party, which, let's face it, was not the 'alone' time I've been needing, and when I was gone less than an hour for a round of cat-sitting for a friend early Sunday morning.

Back to the catching up: We got to hear some of the funnier details of my mom and Jamie's trip. Anything of the more 'involved' nature that they partake in tends to have a certain Magoo-like quality to it. That's the best way I can explain it...you just have to know what I mean. So there was one time in Vancouver where they almost didn't get off the train at their stop. And then a time in Winnipeg where they almost missed their train. Both incidences were related to the fact that they usually had long waits to get off the train after they'd already arrived at the station, and that the trains never boarded on time ("Except for that one time," my mom explained). The former incident was only resolved because someone entered their room to clean out the garbage and upon discovering the stow-aways, informed them that everyone had gotten off 20 minutes prior. The latter was probably worse because it was actually just a layover so all their stuff but cash and cell phones were on the train when it began to pull out of the station without them. The train actually had to back up into the station to pick them up!

I think they're very happy to be home... ;-)
