Day 5: Stripey Jammies

Here's Sabine messing around in her jammies.  She thinks she's so funny.  These are my favorite pj's of the kids'.  They are organic cotton from Under The Nile.  Jacob wore them when he was younger, and someone else will get to wear them after Sabine.  I was planning to let Sabine wear these till they couldn't reasonably be fit on her, but now that I know they will be resurrected in a couple more years, I can let them go to storage a little sooner than I would have.

Day 85: To Be Fair

Since I posted that really bad picture of my sister, I felt like I should post a good one to be fair. This photo was taken not at our lake, but over at the 'swimming lake', and adjacent one that we sometimes go to. I took the photo earlier in the week, you know, before my sister was inebriated, because she wanted one of herself and Marisa in their matching bathing suits. It took an awful lot to get Marisa to make a normal face, and check out those abs on her!!

Day 74: Buried Treasure

I think this was our first day at the beach. We did the obligatory sand burying and I gave Jacob a shirt under his head to be comfortable, as well as the hat over his face to block the sun. The Yankees would be proud?

Day 68: Sabine at the Beach

I have a ton of beach pictures, so it's really hard to choose. I'll just take it day by day and go with my favorite. So here is Sabine at the beach. This was the first sunny day we had at the beach. She loved it, obviously. That's the John Deere hat that Jacob passed on to her. My kids were probable the only two kids who wore a hat at the beach the whole week. Sabine loves wearing a hat, and she puts them on backwards like by herself. She says hat, actually, it's one of her few words. She has a lot of words, but the thing is five different words will sound the same and you have to be in her immediate family to be able to catch the subtle difference. Head, hot and hat all sound mostly the same.

Day 66: Flip Flops

Zach's mother turned 60 this year, so in celebration, she and Richard rented a house in Cape May. And that's how we ended up vacationing there for a week. Jan has gotten into making jewelry in the past few years. Here are all the flip flops that she made for each of the women who were going to be staying at the house that week. Well, she didn't make the flip flops, but embellished them with her jewelry-making skills. I like this photo because it has a nice beachy feel to it.

Day 60: Will Trade Sister

Here we are back at the miniature golf course. This picture was taken after we were done golfing, after I'd almost thrown the kids in the water half a dozen times.

We bought this shirt for Jacob last year in a Cracker Barrel while we were traveling to a wedding in Virginia. As soon as I saw the shirt I knew they'd made it for Jacob; aside from the fact that he would never actually trade her. But he is such a good sport that he totally jokes around about it with everyone who comments on the shirt. And it is the most-commented piece of clothing thus far/

Day 58: Zach and his crazy kid

Ok so I just realized it's Zach's birthday (no, not just now, I'm doing this 5 days ago and post-dating) so I had to come up with a photo of him. So here he is, carrying Sabine in the Ergo Carrier (Kevin and Bethany, take note), and walking with Jacob and Marisa to go miniature golfing. We took those crazy kids mini-golfing twice on that trip and I swore I'd never do it again. They cannot control themselves when they are together. Anyway, the picture is adorable, and how about Jacob in his calf-length baseball socks? It was a phase...

Day 45: Wall Art

I took this picture of Sabine while she was brushing her teeth at Camp on the day we were getting packed up to leave. Sabine was wearing a shirt of mine (from when I was a baby) so I wanted to get some authentic Camp pictures of her in it. I recently dug into my box of old baby clothes and will be putting more of my old clothes on her.

My sister said this looks like a picture she'd put in her bathroom, and I think I actually might just do that at my house. Take that Anne Geddes.

Day 39: Hanging the wash out to dry

Last week I walked out onto the deck for something and was struck by what I saw. It's a bunch of doll clothes and tiny baby clothes that Jacob uses for various members of his gang. I did not put those things there, which can only mean on thing: Jacob did. Sometimes I get so mad at him and so upset when it seems like he's no longer a sweet little boy. How I needed reminding on this day that he's just a sensitive kid and is just as likely to be hand-washing doll clothes in the sink as he is to be getting into something he shouldn't be.

It's all a matter of my own perception. I have to remember that Jacob's motives might not always seem to be good ones, but more often than not, they're going to lead to a scene like this. The times when I freak out on him, I'm just not seeing things clearly - his motives are the same, I just don't like the end result those other times.

In the mix here are some of my Cabbage Patch Doll clothes from when I was a kid, a newborn Yankee shirt that Pilchard likes to wear, scratch mittens, newborn bibs, Bunnies By The Bay bunny slippers that both my kids wore, and the teeny, tiny knit cap that Jacob's sister came home from the hospital in.

Day 9: Try that on for size

This picture is another one from the day we went strawberry picking. We were getting ready to wrap things up and head home. Sabine grabbed my mom's hat and put it on. I caught this photo just as she was making a perfect la-dee-dah face. That and the "2" painted on her face, as well as the strawberry juice stain on her chin make this my favorite photo of that day. For G'Ma Chris

Zach spent the weekend at his dad and Chris's house re-doing their barn roof. As he was wrapping things up late Sunday afternoon, I brought the kids down for a visit. Sabine was still in her party skirt from that morning when we attended a baby shower. Chris just went nuts over the skirt and couldn't get over how cute Sabine was in it. She said, "I can't wait to show all my friends a picture of my hippie chick grand-daughter in that skirt!" Or something to that effect, but the point is that she said Grand Daughter. That's a big step for someone who doesn't have any of her own children and swore she'd never be referred to as a grandmother.

Jacob must have sensed a shift because the next day when we were back down there picking up Zach's truck, Jacob walked over to Chris to ask her to open the horse stall. He started, "Grandma Chris, can you..." and she didn't even flinch. Zach and I looked at each other and raised our eyebrows as if to say, did you just hear what I heard?

Jenny's Dress

This little dress was given to Sabine by my cousin at Christmas. It has little dogs all over it, so naturally, Sabine loves to wear it. I thought you'd like seeing this picture of her in the dress, Jenny. Although, this picture was taken a couple weeks ago (and I never got around to posting it), she's wearing the dress again today, so it is still an authentic post.

You can't see the tights in either of the pictures, but she's rocking bright, stripey tights with the dress, as well as cute little braids. And I've included a photo at the end with Jacob in it, doing what he does best (being a goofball).
